Basic Food Safety and Hygiene – Level 1

This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland Level 1 guidelines. Food Safety legislation requires that all staff working with food receive training commensurate with their level of involvement.

Who should attend this course?

  • New employees with no previous experience
  • Food workers with light food handling responsibilities
  • Support workers undertaking low risk tasks

Course Objectives:

  •  Identify the hazards and risks associated with food preparation
  •  Define food poisoning and food contamination and understand how they occur
  • Outline the importance of correct storage, preparation, handling and cooking of food
  • Legal responsibilities of food workers
  • Structural requirements of food premises
  •  Identify pest infestation and how to control it
  • Outline the importance of cleaning and cleaning schedules
  •  Outline the purpose of HACCP

  • Food Safety awareness
  • Food contamination and prevention
  • Safe Food procedures
  • Personal hygiene
  • HACCP – Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points system
  • Food Safety law in Ireland

Assessment: Theory test.

Duration: 3 Hours.

Certification: Level 1 Wright Safety Services Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate.

Participants: Maximum 15 per course.
